Data Offering

We are focused on providing broad access to ESG data. We do that through 1) Our ESG data feed, where we make common ESG KPIs like emissions and diversity ratios available for a fraction of the cost of other providers, and 2) Custom data services, where we leverage our AI driven data pipeline to collect, clean, and organize any data you need.

Use Cases

Corporates: Investors, boards, and policymakers all want an in depth understanding of corporate ESG performance. Sustainable data helps companies benchmark performance against competitors and industry to shape strategy, analyze suppliers and vendors to help meet ESG related goals, and shape the narrative around your internal and external communications so efforts are clearly understood.

Investors and Analysts: Investors with $130T in assets have committed to being net-zero. With these commitments comes a new level of analysis for the securities in a portfolio. Sustainable data helps investors and analysts understand a company’s intention and performance around ESG related issues and integrates easily into broader decision making workflows.

Fintech and SaaS Providers: Entrepreneurs continue to build software that improves every corner of our financial lives. Issues like sustainability and social impact are quickly becoming key considerations for customers as they make decisions around what to buy and how to invest. Sustainable data is easily embedded into all types of products, so that Fintech can meet customers where they are with Sustainability, without spending huge amounts of engineering hours on building

Educators, Researchers, and Students: Sustainable business and ESG is one of the fastest growing industries in the world. To cultivate the next generation of leaders in this space, educators and students need real-world data for projects, research, and analysis. Sustainable provides friendly terms and easy access to educators, and aims to be a driving force for high quality ESG education.

Consultants: The world’s largest consulting firms are investing billions of dollars into ESG advisory practices. Many of these firms have the resources to build and buy expensive ESG data platforms. But ESG is not just an opportunity for the large firms. Smaller consultants have long led the ESG movement, and need tools to continue these efforts. Sustainable data is built to support advisory, new service offerings, and in depth research so smaller players can still be competitive.

Data Sources & Collection

Our data is sourced directly from company disclosure. We focus on facts (or exactly what the company says) not proxies, like estimates, ratings, or the like. We source data through mandatory disclosures like the 10K, 10Q, etc. Or from voluntary sources like ESG reports, DEI reports, CSR reports, company websites, and blog posts.

Key Differentiators

We are a group of former Hedge Fund managers, Strategy Consultants, and Software Developers. We believe that ESG can be a driver of progress towards key issues of our time like climate change and social inequality, but right now is misguided. To us, that is a data problem. We differentiate our data based on access and quality. What does this mean?

  1. Cost: we do not think company provided ESG data should cost $30,000 dollars a year. It is a public good and should be priced accordingly.
  2. Terms: other providers are incredibly restrictive in how you are allowed to use their ESG data. In some instances they even require revenue sharing agreements before allowing you to use the data publicly! Ridiculous! We have open terms that allow you to use the data however you want.
  3. Flexibility: many other providers force you onto a platform to leverage complicated APIs, interfaces, and other distribution models. We provide easy to use CSVs, that include common identifies like ISIN #s and stock tickers that you can easily incorporate into existing workflows.
  4. Up to Date: most other providers either license CDP data, which is only updated annually. But ESG data is not like other financial data, it is updated all of the time. We continuously monitor and update our data set, so you will get the most recent data and not have to wait till the end of the year.
  5. Source Document Traceability: we source the ESG data directly from company reports and provide links to the KPI location. This serves as a great tool to check quality, and helps easily uncover insights.
