WeatherLogistics in a Nutshell

WeatherLogistics® is an ambitious UK based climate technology company, founded in 2014. Its Re-Climate® product delivers the most reliable seasonal climate prediction system in Europe, with its precipitation forecasts independently assessed by the National Physical Laboratory. It achieves this by blending numerous climate datasets and weather models through its algorithms; and this helps organisations to accurately forecast extreme weather, calculate their risk exposure and build operational resilience. The company’s successful projects include a European Space Agency kick-start activity. WeatherLogistics® has also undertaken data validation and meteorological product audits for the agricultural industry and sponsored a wheat prediction market in 2021. It delivers its climate products to utility and insurance clients through the Google Cloud Platform, currently supporting operations teams in Turkey and the UK impacted by drought.

Data Offering

  • Builds on 10-years of R&D in seasonal climate prediction science
  • Combines state-of-the-art models, downscaling, statistical post-processing, chronic climate trend adjustments, and rigorous validation methods
  • Simulates daily precipitation event generation to manage local flood/ drought
  • Delivers accurate physical risk analytics to assess intensities of daily weather events
  • Extends deterministic weather predictions with a seamless probabilistic forecast extending from 2 to 15 weeks

Use Cases

WeatherLogistics’ extended precipitation forecasts help water utility reduce their exposure to drought risk, by avoiding low water levels through hydroelectric pumping efficiencies. The company also supports firms to develop near-term climate adaptation plans, ESG reporting targets and UN sustainable development goals (reducing food waste/ water/ land-use, input costs, greenhouse gas emissions).

Data Sources & Collection

Contains modified Copernicus Climate Change Service information 2022. Neither the European Commission nor ECMWF is responsible for any use that may be made of the Copernicus information or data it contains. Historical downscaling is based on the highest quality weather assimilation data, providing over 50 years (billions of data points) to train weather events. Chronic and seasonal climate adjustments are performed on local and daily information.

Key Differentiators

Accuracy and reliability at high resolution is core to our seasonal climate prediction offering, providing NPL-validated daily precipitation that is spatially correlated. Climate analytics are provided at a high and temporal granularity and as a probabilistic forecast that combines multiple models (ECMWF, Met Office and Météo-France) and a jet-stream linked statistical model. Our approach therefore provides a well-constrained estimate of confidence intervals essential for decision-making processes (such as drought or water challenges). Using our Quickstart code we take the Data Science work-load off clients hands, and enable them to provide solutions faster.

Data Privacy

Data is stored and maintained securely as necessary on end-to-end encrypted storage to the purpose of product and service delivery. Personal or sensitive information is not shared with 3rd parties.
